Mother's Day                           me and my beau

Had a lot of exciting news about the quails. We started seeing mama bird more frequently. Here she is pictured lying on her eggs, and soon after, they hatched!

Unfortunately the dogs found them before we did. But nobody was hurt! Sadie got a hold of one of the babies, but the baby bird got away safely. I also took a peek at their hide out in the backyard!

I’ve been seeing more and more baby quail even well into the summer months. This is the most recent one that was caught straggling behind it’s family. If we’re keeping score, it’s Quail: 3, Dogs: 0.

Spring Eggs

eggs

So,  the day after Easter we found these eggs hidden in a flower pot that was housing a fern. If you look at the edge of the pot, there are faded white parts that the bird has been perching on a scratching up to design her nest. This was day one of the discovery, and I continued to take pictures daily for a period of time. It was very interesting to see the way the eggs were sorted, and the new eggs over a period of time. Nature is just amazing, isn’t it? 😉

All of the different ways the eggs were being organized. Never once did I touch the eggs or the anything around it. I wanted to make sure not to disturb the nest and scare mother bird away!

She continued to lay one to two eggs daily over the span of 1-2 weeks.

But we never saw her once. I believe she was staying on the nest over night, early mornings, and the evenings. Possibly throughout the day as well.

We finally started seeing the bird around. I believe she’s stopped laying eggs and has since been keeping them warm from the unpredictable Arizona weather!

I just couldn’t wait any longer to share these pictures with you guys!

After some research, we believe the bird is a quail. I got close enough to take a peek at her while she was nesting (not close enough to scare her away!) and I briefly saw what I believe to be the distinguishing feather on the top of her head, so we’ll just have to wait and see! I’ll try to post updates when possible, because this is a really unique experience for me and I’m pretty excited about it witnessing it and photographing the occasion.  🙂 Thank you all for your support!

Photo Journal: Winter Through Beginning of Spring 2013

Started off the year in January by house Sitting with a very pretty kitty named Miss Lou

Ms. Lou

Playing with a fish eye lens

And caught an action picture of some loving puppies

Playing with a micro lens.

Hair looks pretty cool up close.

Caught someone napping on my laundry!

This looks like a before & after picture, but it’s not!

When I was playing with my micro lens I took an up close picture of a dried rose (left)

The rose on the right is a beautiful rose from my boyfriend from Valentine’s Day.

So technically, the dried rose came first.

Had some more experience with Sadie “playing” when my cousin was in town.

This game mostly involves Sadie getting the tennis ball, dropping it into the pool

Then either: barking at you until you throw it

Or until she gets tired of waiting and fishes it out herself

Only to toss it back into the pool.

I moved, and found a wig among random things. We all love dogs with wigs, right?

But Sadie wasn’t having it.

*Powder, my parent’s dog, tried on the wig as well and looked pretty happy about it, but his picture wasn’t loading 😦

Penny however loved it, and looked FABULOUS!

So far, this year has been pretty amazing, how was your first quarter of the year? 🙂

Spring Hands

Spring is like a perhaps hand

With fine lines that grow

After white Winter has thawed

To create warmth

And defrost you.

This hand creates life

When touching nature

And perhaps will bring smiles to pleasant neighbors.

This hand is weathered

And perhaps quite old,

But this hand brings us youth annually.

Yes, perhaps Spring is like a hand.
